The audio file below contains the standard 20 metre beep test protocol. All 21 levels. Correct timing based on the Léger protocol starting at 8.5 km/h and increasing 0.5 km/h per level.

This is a generated audio track produced to the correct timing specification. It is free to download and use for personal training and non-commercial testing purposes.

The file is an MP3. It will play on any smartphone, tablet or computer. You do not need a special app — your phone's standard audio player will work.

How to Use the Audio File

Download the file to your phone before your training session — do not rely on a mobile data connection during the test. Gaps in audio due to buffering will invalidate your result.

Play the file through a speaker loud enough for all participants to hear clearly. In a large sports hall, a portable bluetooth speaker works well. If any participant cannot hear the beeps, the test is not valid for them.

The audio includes a spoken level and shuttle announcement before each new level begins. Listen for the double beep — it signals a level change and a slight increase in pace.
